Today is "Lazy Day"  The boys and girls should wear comfortable clothes (we always do) and let's get cozy by bringing a STUFFED ANIMAL to school.

This Week in Kindergarten!

Hard at work on Monday morning, practicing to print the letter H correctly.

The boys and girls also circled all of the upper-case and lower-case Hh's on other side of the printing page.

Mme Page has been in our classroom all week.  We took the opportunity to divide the class into two groups to do some problem solving activities.

The boys and girls had to wait patiently for their turn to print their names on the paper.

The problem that Mme Godin's groups were solving consisted of finding different combinations of mittens.

If there were 5 mittens in the Lost and Found box, how many could be purple and how many could be pink.

Mme Page was teaching the children about ordinal numbers (premier, deuxième, troisième, quatrième et cinquième), first, second, third, fourth and fifth.

Mme Godin also taught the boys and girls a card game.  Don't roll the number 6 on the die or you have to put a card back in the middle of the pile.

The children took turns solving the problem using fun foam mittens and demonstrated their learning by colouring the mittens on the paper.

They had to look carefully at their friend's response so that they could find a different way of showing their answer (4 purple mittens and 1 pink mitten, 2 purple mittens and 3 pink mittens, 5 pink mittens and 0 purple mittens, etc.)

Mme Jewers, our school division's occupational therapist gave a pencil grip demonstration on Thursday.

Some of the childcare workers from Assiniboine Children's Centre and Discovery Daycare joined us for this special presentation.

The boys and girls were taught a trick to hold their pencil correctly and they used special flip crayons to trace rainbow lines.  We also learned a song to help us hold our pencils correctly.  Mme Godin will translate the song into French over the weekend.

This Week in Kindergarten!

We had a very busy first week back at school.

It was so busy that Mme Godin did not take many photos.

The children were all so excited to see their friends again.

And they were even more excited to discover at which table group they would be sitting for the next few months.

On Monday, the children practiced printing the letter E.

They also circled all of the upper-case and lower-case Ee's they could find.

All of the students were well rested and ready to focus on work.

Please remember to check your child's ziplock bag or an earlier post on my blog to see which day is your child's new Show and Tell day.

Some of the new vocabulary that we will be learning this month.

Mme Page, our school division's numeracy coach is with us for the next three weeks.

She has been playing many new games with the boys and girls.

The children enjoyed playing "Oh, non 11!"

The goal of the game is to flip all of the cards before flipping over the four number 11's.

We completed the colour "blanc" in our colour booklets.

The boys and girls made a white cloud and copied the words "le nuage" (a cloud).

They also printed the number 3.

We have been reviewing how to draw a person and naming the body parts in French.

Learning about tally marks (les marques de fréquence).

And only one photo of play time.  Lots of cooperation and team work going on here.
