This Week in Kindergarten!

The boys and girls used Q tips and red paint to trace over the letters in their names.

I will be sending home a laminated name printing sheet for you to keep at home in the next week or so.  The children will be practicing to print their names in lower-case letters at school each day.

We have been talking about treaties and each class wrote a treaty together.

Ask your child what a treaty is (a promise) and what they promised to do to make our class a safe and fun place to learn.

The afternoon class shook hands and promised to follow our treaty.

The morning class agreeing and promising.

We started the first book of many about twins Paul and Suzanne.  Our very first book is all about fall (l'automne).

Playing a math game with Mme Godin's giant cards.

Mme put a card on a child's forehead and our friends had to show us with their fingers the correct number.  The child with the card on his/her forehead had to guess the number.

Tracing the numbers from 1 to 5 and adding the correct amount of stars on each finger.
Playing a find the object that is different game on the SMARTboard.
Another fun Math game with a jumbo die and playing cards.  We rolled the die and found the matching card but be careful to not roll a 6 or we have to put a card back in the pile.  When all the cards are picked we counted to see who had the most.

Colouring squares (les carrés).
We ended off the week with our Terry Fox run for the afternoon class.

Comment ça va?

Every day after attendance, I ask the children how they are feeling.  "Comment ça va?"

Sentence Structures!

These are some of the sentence structures that we will be using daily in kindergarten all year long.  I am introducing these new sentences a few at a time.  We have been working on "Bonjour!", "Au revoir!" "Est-ce que je peux aller aux toilettes s'il-vous-plait?" and "Est-ce que je peux me laver les mains s'il-vous-plait?".  I have added other sentences that we will be practicing over the next few weeks.

Please feel free to have your child practice along with me.  I will be adding more slideshows of all the new French vocabulary taught in class as well as videos of the children singing songs and reciting poems throughout the year.

Let me know if ever you have any questions or concerns.

Merci!
Mme Godin

Les couleurs - slideshow!

As promised, I will be posting some of our new vocabulary slideshows.  Please take a few minutes each night to practice naming the colours in French.

This Week in Kindergarten!

This week, we played many games relating to colours.  The boys and girls had to try and get all of the craft sticks with a coloured button out of the container before picking the "Oh-Oh!" stick.  If a child picked the "Oh-Oh!" stick we had to put all of the other craft sticks back in the container and start again.

Practicing to hold a pencil correctly and tracing short lines.

The afternoon class hard at work.

Sorting the shapes according to circles (les cercles) and squares (les carrés).

Colouring all of the circles on the paper.

Reminding the children to hold the crayon (le crayon de cire) just like their pencil (le crayon).

Playing colour bingo on the SMARTboard.

Working in our colour booklets.

There were many steps to follow and the boys and girls all did a great job!

We will learn a new poem for each colour and complete a craft to further develop fine motor skills as well as to reinforce the new vocabulary.

Singing our Terry Fox song:  "La persévérance" by Gregg LeRock before starting our run this morning.

The children ran in the gym with M. Charrette's class and some grade 4 helpers.  Mme Laura said that she could hear the students singing:  "Je cours comme Terry.  Terry Fox!" (I run like Terry).  Just a reminder that the afternoon class will be doing the Terry Fox run next Friday, September 27th at 2:00 p.m.

And of course so much learning, exploring, discovering, creating, cooperating and sharing during that all important PLAY TIME!

Making a pot of soup in the house area.

So many beautiful Play-doh creations.

Playing in the sandbox.

Building so many marble runs.

Setting the table with friends.  And just like that another week is over!

The afternoon class sings: "Bonjour mes amis!"

Terry Fox Run!

www.kellylewis.edublogs.org

Once again, École Assiniboine will be supporting the Terry Fox Foundation by walking/running on Friday, September 20th (rain date will be the 27th).  This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the back of the school.

The morning class will be running/walking either outside or in the gym depending on the weather on the 20th.  There will not be a rain date for the morning class as this activitiy will take place during their regular Phys. Ed. class and they do not have Phys. Ed. on the 27th.

Please help us to make a difference by sending a donation of a loonie or a toonie with your child on the run day.

Take some time to talk with your child about our Canadian hero, Terry Fox, and why we have a special run in memory of him every year.

YOUR CHILD MAY BRING A LABELLED WATER BOTTLE TO SCHOOL FOR THE RUN. WE WILL BRING OUR WATER BOTTLES OUTSIDE IN CASE WE GET THIRSTY DURING THIS OUTDOOR ACTIVITY.
