This Week in Kindergarten!

We have been spending lots of extra time outside these last few weeks (weather permitting). We talked about the changes that occur to trees in the fall.

We also talked about coniferous trees (les conifères).

Practicing to name the parts of a tree in French.

La cime (the top of the tree).

We even sang some of our fall songs outside.

The afternoon class getting ready to throw their leaves in the air.

Les feuilles tombent (the leaves are falling).

Once a cycle some of our friends from grade 5 come to play with us.

The grade 5 students are good role models, speaking French to the kindergarten students.

Playing with the trains.

Play-doh creations.

Showing the grade 5 students the magna-tiles.

Setting up the dollhouse.

A large group of children were building with Lego.

Play-doh.

The grocery store.

Waiting for our grade 5 friend to serve us dinner.

We made black cats.  Les chats noirs de la maternelle p.m.

Les chats noirs de la maternelle a.m.

This week's discovery bins included a Math game.

Halloween lacing cards.

Halloween puzzles.

We finished our line and curve booklets.  I will be sending them home next week.  We will be starting our formal letter and number printing program after Halloween.

We played a colour game with velcro fly swatters.  The first student to bring me the correct colour was the winner.

We dipped a potato masher in orange paint and stamped three circles on a white paper.  The next day the children transformed the circles into jack'o'lanterns (les feux-follets).

This Week in Kindergarten!

We started off this short week printing more curves and lines.  The boys and girls also made circles in their booklets.

On Wednesday, the children participated in the Bus Ridership program offered by our school division.

We learned how to be a good passenger on the school bus and what to do in the case of an emergency.  The bus driver showed us all of the emergency exits.  The one at the back of the bus...

The four special window exits.

And the 2 exits on the roof of the school bus.

Practicing to evacuate from the back of the bus.

The children learned all about the "danger zone" and how when we see the lights flashing it is a warning for those children who have to cross the road.

After the lights have flashed a warning this special arm comes out and we must stand by the yellow bar until the bus driver tells us that it is same to cross.

The afternoon class all ready to learn about bus safety.

The children were all very good listeners.

The bus driver showed us his first aid kit, fire extinguisher, crowbar and walkie-talkie, all things that he may need in case of an emergency.

Jumping out the back of the bus.

Making numbers with snap cubes.

Fall themed lacing cards.

Adding the correct number of chain links to the cards.

Creating with these special lines and curves.

This little boy created a very intricate design.

He discovered that he could fold it up and transform it into a rocket ship.  So much fun!

We ended off the week working in our colour booklets.  Le soleil est jaune (The sun is yellow).
