This Week in Kindergarten!

On Monday, April 22nd it was Earth Day.  We started off the week watching a series of very short videos called "Les aventures d'Écolo-fille".  She is a super hero who wants to save the planet.  We also kept the lights off in the classroom all day long.

We have also been singing a song by local artist Jacques Chenier called "Notre terre"  (Our earth).

We had many discussions about recycling.

Reducing.

And reusing.

We used coffee filters, blue and green markers and a spray bottle of water to make our beautiful planet, Earth.

The morning class' earths.

And the afternoon class' earths.

As part of our "All About Me" unit in Social Studies, the boys and girls drew pictures of their bedrooms.

We also practiced printing the letter S.

And on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning the students watched dress rehearsals of the grade 3 to 5 spring musical "Return of the Glass Slipper".

What a talented group of students we have at École Assiniboine.  The kindergarten students enjoyed watching some of their older siblings and classroom helpers perform!

The children also extended ABC, AAB and ABB Earth day patterns.

This Week in Kindergarten!

We started off the week with a few Easter activities.  The boys and girls had to roll a die to see how many whiskers the rabbit needed on the left and they rolled the die a second time to add the correct amount of whiskers on the right.  The last step was to add them together to see how many whiskers the rabbit had in all.

The children cut the whiskers, glued them on the rabbit and completed the number sentence below.

Mme Godin read a book called "L'oeuf de Pâques".  The boys and girls had to guess what was hiding in the egg.

We watched the same story on the SMARTboard and discovered a few differences from the book that Mme Godin read, such as the title of the book, the colour of the rabbit and the colour of the egg.  But the rest of the story was the same.

Coco the rabbit was looking for a friend and he found an egg.

We all took turns guessing what could be inside the egg.  It was a little duck, who became the rabbit's friend.

Printing the missing numbers on number lines.

Playing an Easter game.

Putting eggs in order from the smallest to the largest.
And we ended off the week with a few Easter centres.

The children worked so well together at their tables.

They all took turns and shared the materials with their friends.

It was a fun way to end the week.

An Easter memory game.  The images were covered with plastic eggs.  The player with the most eggs was the winner.

Some Easter puzzles.

Hopping bunnies.  The children had to try and get as many bunnies as possible in the basket.

Easter tic-tac-toe and an egg full of bunnies.

We also took some quiet time to find 12 hidden Easter eggs on the paper.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

HAPPY EASTER!  JOYEUSES PÂQUES!!!

This Week in Kindergarten!

We started off the week counting springtime objects.

Matching upper-case to lower-case letters in the word "avril".

Illustrating a spring sentence.

Reviewing the letter G.

Practicing to print the letter G.

Stretching out the sounds in words so that the boys and girls may become more familiar with writing words in French.

The children print the sounds that they hear when Mme Godin says the words slowly...A  R  B  R   E.  They did a great job!

A simple maze.

And a dot to dot.

I reminded the students that we are getting ready for grade one and that we must try very hard to colour neatly between the lines.

Practicing to identify the numbers from 1 to 20.  The boys and girls are trying to find where Mme Godin hid the rabbit (le lapin).

We had the light cube lit up pink on "Pink Shirt Day".

The all time favourite toy this year has to be the magna tiles!

A tumbling tower of rabbits.

The boys and girls are wearing their Jets gear/white clothing to school with pride.  Thanks to all of the families who have sent non-perishable foods to school for Winnipeg Harvest.  We will continue to collect items on game days.
