This Week in Kindergarten!

On a very cold Monday we bundled up warmly for "Bus Ridership".  The bus driver went over all of the bus rules with the children.

The boys and girls answered and asked many questions.  The bus driver showed us things that she would use in case of an emergency such as a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher,  an axe, a walkie talkie radio and her cell phone.

There are 2 emergency exits on the roof of the school bus.

There are 4 window exits, as well as the front windshield which is made of tempered glass.

The children also practiced to exit from the back emergency door.

This week the children practiced printing the letter I.

And we made some snowmen (les bonshommes de neige) to decorate the hallways in preparation for our Winter Concert on December 12th.

The morning class' snowmen all watching the snowflakes fall from the sky.

The afternoon class' snowmen.

We will be learning about some of the different holidays that people celebrate during the winter as part of our social studies curriculum.  We have been talking about "Hanoukka" for the past few days.  Mme Godin read us a book about this special celebration and one of the students from the morning class brought her dreidel (toupie) and book to share with us.
HAPPY HANUKKAH TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL START CELEBRATING THIS SPECIAL HOLIDAY ON SUNDAY!

The boys and girls found this special little elf hanging on the SMARTboard.  She left us a note introducing herself as Lucie Lutin (Lucy the elf).  She is Santa's friend and she will come visit us every day to see if we are listening to Mme Godin, working hard and playing nicely with our friends.  Lucie also told us that there are only 25 more sleeps until Christmas!

Winter Concert Information!

* image found at 123rf.com

The room 12 kindergarten concerts will take place on Wednesday, December 12th in the school gym at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Kindergarten students may attend one or both of the performances.  All of the morning kindergarten students who attend Assiniboine Children's Centre will join my afternoon class for the concert.  Any other families from the morning class wishing to attend the afternoon concert should drop their children off at the kindergarten classroom between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. and return to get them immediately after the concert as afternoon kindergarten classes will resume after the performance.

All students attending the evening performance should be dropped off at the classroom shortly after 6:00 p.m. so that the concert may begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

The boys and girls are asked to wear nice clothing (no specific colours) on the day of the concert.  Please remember that this is a winter concert so no Santa hats, elf hats or reindeer antlers.

Children will remain on the risers for the entire concert which should last approximately 35 minutes.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

This Week in Kindergarten!

The boys and girls started off the week printing the letter T in their letter booklets.

They also had to circle all of the upper-case and lower-case Tt's on the other side of the page.

We had our last classes with TIA artist Daina Leitold.  The children are being the different parts of a tree.  We have some roots, the trunk, branches and leaves.

The entire class made one super big tree on the classroom floor.

The afternoon class were making snow angels during our "Freeze Please" game.

Putting together a tree in the afternoon class.

And another super big tree was created using all of our bodies.

We also completed the colour, "orange" in our colour booklets.

On Thursday evening and Friday morning the students had the chance to share their portfolios with their families.

They also sang the alphabet song.

Sorted objects according to colours "jaune, rouge, bleu, vert".

Different ways to make letters...using wooden lines, the magna doodle, tracing in sand and making letters with small branch pieces.

Using wood chips to make sets of objects that are the same as (pareil que), less than (moins que) and more than (plus que).

Extending simple patterns using unifix cubes as well as creating a vertical pattern using links.

We have been learning about the 10 frame (la grille de dix).

These students are showing us the number 5.

The boys and girls returned to their tables to print the number 1 and to draw one circle on the 10 frame in their number booklets.

This Week in Kindergarten!

This week we have using the story "Boucle d'or et les trois ours" to learn some new French words.
We are using the words "petit, moyen, grand" when describing our Show and Tell items.

The boys and girls enjoy retelling the story with these little characters and props from the book.

We read a few different versions of the book and also watched a very short video.

Daina Leitold was with us this week.  She will also return next week as she had to cancel Wednesday's sessions.

Throwing an imaginary ball so that Daina could learn all of our names.

I believe that the children were being squirrels, gathering acorns for the winter.

Each child had to sculpt their partner into something that they like to do in the fall such as raking leaves, walking in the leaves, riding a bicycle, jumping in the leaves, etc.

A fall tableau.  We have some trees, squirrels, rabbits, swings and even a garbage can.

Daina and a volunteer demonstrating how to sculpt their statue.

I think that these were Canada geese preparing to fly off for the winter.

The afternoon class also sculpted their friends into statues of things that we like to do in the fall.  Because it feels more like winter in Winnipeg we even had some figure skaters.

The afternoon class' tableau with lots of animals preparing for winter and one little girl who enjoyed watching the leaves fall from the window in her house.

We have been busy preparing our portfolios for next week's "Celebration of Learning" conferences.

Tracing and cutting the circle carefully along the lines.

We also completed the colour "vert" in our colour booklets.

We also ended off the week, printing the number zero.
