Completing the colour "brun" in our colour booklets.

A sample of our tracing.

And our cutting skills to include in our portfolios.

Practicing to print the letter M.

Our stuffies were hard at work printing the number 6 with us.

The afternoon class listened to stories in the gym.

Mme Rothwell (our school's vice-principal) came to read a book to the morning class.

The boys and girls were busy illustrating a special story about what they like to do at school.

These story crowns will also be shared with families during conferences on the evening of March 12th and the morning of March 13th.

Voyageur Vocabulary!

I just realized that I forgot to post a slideshow of the Voyageur vocabulary.  Sorry about that!  Feel free to go over the new words with your child.

This Week in Kindergarten!

Drawing a voyageur.

The morning class' voyageur.

The afternoon class' voyageur.

We played with our grade five buddies on day 6.

Some Voyageur counting activities.

At the end of each day we watch Super-Mini and his colour mixing adventures.

We also played a fun Voyageur board game.

Les pique-piques (pokey pins) du Voyageur.  The boys and girls used a thumb tack to pierce little holes on each dot. This activity helps to strengthen the muscles in our fingers.  The classroom was so quiet as the children focused on this fun task.

Once they were finished with the thumb tack, the children coloured the voyageur.

The first Voyageur activity was the music centre.  We listened to a book, sang songs and played instruments.

The morning class also played Voyageur bingo.

Voyageur games in the gym.  The students had to hop in the hoops without letting their pancake fall to the ground.  If it did they had to start all over again before continuing on.

Canoe rides.

Tug of war to see who was the strongest Voyageur.

Swinging over the river.

The afternoon class' turn.

Trying to capture the red flag.

The afternoon class also made sash bracelets (les ceintures flechees).

The boys and girls did a great job at this station.

They were all so proud and excited to take their bracelets home.

And we also visited Monsieur Lacroix's Voyageur museum.

Trying on these super big Voyageur pants.

Les mocassins.

Les mitaines.

La veste.

Le chapeau de castor.

Les raquettes.

Monsieur Lacroix had so many amazing things to share with us.

We ended off the day singing songs and playing the spoons.  The students all agreed that it was the best day ever!!!

Merci!

Thank you once again to École Assiniboine's parent council.  The grades 1 to 5 participate in the annual Voyageur pancake lunch so the parent council treated all of the kindergarten students to a new pencil as they do not remain at school for lunch.  They will get to participate in this special activity next school year.

Merci!

This Week in Kindergarten!

The children are hard at work Monday decorating the Valentine envelopes that they designed last week.

There were lots of hearts, ribbon, jewels, stickers and doilies at each table.

The morning class' envelopes.

The afternoon class' envelopes.

We started to learn about the voyageur at the beginning of February.  The children are enjoying the adventures of Paul et Suzanne and learning about le Festival du Voyageur.

We practiced naming the voyageur clothing.

We also played a game on the SMARTboard called "Où est le castor?"  Where is the Beaver?  Together we name an object on the board and try to find the beaver.

We practice upper-case and lower-case letters of the alphabet as well as letter sounds each day.  The children name the letters as I go through each "tuque rouge".  When they see the words Hé-Ho, they raise their arms in the air and shout like the Voyageur "Hé-Ho!"
We ended off the week exploring Valentine centres.

We played lower-case Valentine bingo.

The boys and girls also played with linking hearts.

Who will be the first to fill their heart shaped ice cube tray.

Valentine tic-tac-toe.  Les coeurs (hearts) et les fleurs (flowers).  The boys and girls were quick to tell me that coeur and fleur were rhyming words.

Learning new strategies to try blocking our opponent.

The afternoon class enjoying Valentine puzzles.

Patiently waiting for our next turn.

The children added the correct amount of heart links to the numbered cards.  Some of the students also made pattern necklaces.
We also found a few minutes to play a guessing game asking the question "Qui a le coeur?" (Who has the heart?).

Happy Valentine's Day!
Joyeuse St. Valentin!
