This Week in Kindergarten!

Once again, it was another short week at school.

We started the week off reconnecting with our "Play Buddies" whom we had not seen for a few weeks because of inservice days.

It is very exciting to see the interactions between my kindergarten students and their new grade 5 friends.

Together, they continue to explore all of the games and toys in the classroom.

And they also help each other out.

Building with Lego continues to be a favourite activity.

As is the K'Nex.

And the marble run.

Building a larger Lego town.

Working quietly together, to create books and drawings.

Playing with the cars, trucks and trains.

Imaginative play at the dollhouse.

As well as in the kitchen area.

And building cooperatively with the large Lego.

This is Mme Swampy.  She is an indigenous teacher for the St. James Assiniboia School Division.  She has been visiting our classroom to teach us about her culture.

We have begun learning about the Seven Teachings.  Each of these little animals represents a virtue intrinsic to a full and healthy life.

Mme Swampy read us two books during our second class.  She read the story of the buffalo whose gift is respect as well as the story of the bear who carries courage.  The boys and girls are busy colouring "le bison" (buffalo) and "l'ours" (bear) for a special activity that we will be completing next week.  Mme Swampy will be with us on Monday, Thursday and Friday of next week to continue teaching us about the Seven Sacred Teachings.

We just barely fit in some time to start our number printing booklets at the beginning of the week.
