This Week in Kindergarten!

Our Remembrance Day song: "Beau coquelicot".
We remember the soldiers on Remembrance and we are thankful for peace.

The boys and girls made poppies.  They painted paper plates red and ripped black construction paper to make the center of  "le coquelicot".

The children could also create poppies with red and black buttons.

The morning class' poppies.

The afternoon class' poppies.

Placing wooden cubes on top of the matching ones on the activity cards.

Making numbers using tangrams.

Wooden alphabet puzzles.

Practicing to print the letter T.

Circling both the upper-case and lower-case Tt's.

What a beautiful poppy.

A paper birthday cake.

More poppies.

Printing the number 1 in our number booklets.

The boys and girls traced the number one, printed the number one, coloured the number one, added one circle in the ten frame and added one apple on the tree.

We had a little service this morning in our classroom.  We listened to the Last Post, had a minute of silence and sang our song: "Beau coquelicot".  The afternoon students as well as the morning students who attend our daycare attended the Remembrance Day service in the gym.

This Week In Kindergarten!

The boys and girls practiced naming the colours in French.  They had to name the colour and click on the circle to see if there was a black cat hiding behind it.  "Où est le chat noir?" Where is the black cat?
We practiced naming our new Halloween words.  Together we repeated "Toc, toc, toc! Qui est à la porte?"  Knock, knock, knock! Who is at the door?
Once the child knocked on the door a Halloween image appeared.
During this activity, Mme Godin would name the Halloween image and the children had to come click on it to watch it spin.
Last week we mixed yellow and red paint on a white paper.  We discovered a new colour - orange.  On Monday, the boys and girls transformed their orange blobs of paint into jack'o'lanterns (les feux-follets).
Les feux-follets de la maternelle p.m.
Les feux-follets de la maternelle a.m.

Playing a Halloween memory game.

We used this special Halloween timer to see who would get snack first, second, third, fourth, line up first, etc.   The children cheered when their character won the race!

This week the boys and girls were identifying groups of objects that are more than (plus que).  We took turns rolling a die and putting leaves on our trees.  Then we had to decide which tree had more leaves.

We also discussed Remembrance Day (le jour du souvenir) and peace!

On Thursday the boys and girls practiced printing the number 0.

The children completed the colour green (vert) in their colour booklets.  Le gazon est vert. (The grass is green).

On Friday, the boys and girls painted paper plates red.  We will let them dry over the weekend and make special poppies (les coquelicots) next week.

Show and Tell!

Monday, November 6th is the start of Show and Tell.  Each child will have the chance to bring a special toy, book, craft, souvenir or a photo once a week to share with his/her friends.

Please remember, no pets, electronic devices (iPads, iPods, etc.) or anything valuable as they may become lost or broken.  YOUR CHILD SHOULD BRING ONLY ONE ITEM AND ONLY ON SHOW AND TELL DAY!

Due to the large number of children in each group, if your child is absent or forgets his/her Show and Tell, he/she will have to wait until the following week to bring an item to school.  Thank you for understanding.

From time to time, I will be asking for specific items such as and objects of a certain colour, shape, a book, etc,
