This Week in Kindergarten!

We ALL survived our very first week of kindergarten!  What a fun and busy week we had!  We played a game to practice saying "le cercle" (circle).  The boys and girls passed the circle when the music was playing.  When the music stopped, the person with the circle held it up in the air and we all repeated "le cercle".

Group 1 decorating the first letter of their names.

Group 2.

Group 3.

And group 4.

The afternoon class also decorated the first letter of their names. This is group 3.

Group 4.

Group 1.

And group 2.

Sorting circles (les cercles) and squares.

Another variation of the circle game was to dance around the room.  When the music stops, the children stop and look at me. When I hold the circle in the air, they repeat "le cercle".

The morning class, hard at work drawing their faces and printing/copying their names.

The afternoon class did the same activity.

Finding objects in the class that are "rouge" (red).

If the object that we found was not red we did not put it in the red circle.

Painting over the letters in our names with red (rouge) paint and a Q tip.

This was a fun way to practice strengthening the muscles in our fingers.

Practicing to say our names:  "Je m'appelle..." (My name is...).

And lots of play time with our new friends.

Helping each other to put the train tracks together.

The art table.

Play-doh.

Sandbox and dollhouse.

Playing in the house area.

Getting the table ready for dinner.

Making beautiful pictures with sparkly crayons.
The boys and girls shared with me some of their favourite things about kindergarten this week...
- playing with my friends
- creating with play-doh
- playing outside at recess
- playing with my cousins and my brother and my sister at recess
- playing with all of the toys
- singing with Mme Godin

Welcome To Room 12!

This is our school, École Assiniboine.  The boys and girls who take the school bus or come to school with Mom or Dad will line up on the pavement at the back of the school behind the number 12 that is painted on the pavement.  We will also line up at this same spot after each recess.  When the bell rings, Mme Godin will come get the students and we will all walk to the classroom together.  The children from Assiniboine Children's Centre will walk to the classroom with the daycare staff at the start of the day and will be picked up at the classroom door at the end of the day.

Mme Godin's classroom is room number 12.

You will find your name on one of the cubbies in the room when you come to meet me during Opening Day Conferences. This is where you will hang up your jacket and backpack.  You will also put your outdoor shoes on the black trays under the cubbies.  Your indoor shoes will be kept in one of the cubbies above the hooks.

Everyone will have their own square to sit on during carpet time activities.

You will also find your name on one of the four round tables in the classroom  This is where you will work and eat your snack.

We will do many group activities at the calendar.

We will start off the day at the SMARTboard singing songs, playing games and learning new French words.

We also have our own bathroom in the classroom as well as a water fountain.

There is a sandbox and a water table in the room.

We have small Lego and lots of bigger Lego in bins.

A store and cash register.

The house area.

There is also a large bin of dress up clothes.

Lots and lots of wooden blocks as well as a work bench.

A puppet theatre with many different puppets.

There are also many other toys and games to explore.

This is our classroom tree.  You will get to see many changes occur to the tree throughout the school year.  There are so many other centres and toys waiting to be discovered when you come to school in September.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you!  Enjoy the last week of summer holidays!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

* image found at clipartpanda.com

Bonjour and welcome to kindergarten!  Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

Your child will be learning and experiencing so much during his/her time spent at school.  I will be using my blog to help build a community that links home and school and as a way to document, communicate and celebrate all of the learning experiences that take place in kindergarten during the school year.

Please use the blog posts as a prompt to engage your child in conversation about school. Ask your child questions such as "What was happening here?", "Tell me about this activity.", "Can you tell me who you were playing with?", etc.  By doing this, you are communicating to your child that you are interested in what he/she is experiencing and discovering at school.

Remember if ever you have any questions or concerns give me a call (204-885-2216) or send me an email (mgodin@sjsd.net) and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support!  I look forward to sharing our learning with you.
