Snack Time!

Just a reminder to make sure that you send healthy snacks to school.  If your child needs a spoon, please make sure to include one in his/her snack bag.

Also, there are children with life threatening allergies in the class, including, nuts, peanuts, tree nuts and fish.  PLEASE CHECK LABELS CAREFULLY when sending snacks with your child!

There are also students with intolerances to dairy, wheat and eggs.  The children are aware that they should never share snacks with their classmates.

HAT DAY!!!!  Teachers will be wearing hats to school as part of the United Way campaign.  All students are invited to wear a hat to school today as well!

Thursday, October 12th:  Phys. Ed. for the afternoon class.

Friday, October 13th:  Music for the afternoon class.

This Week In Kindergarten!

This week we started Discovery Bins.  Each table has different materials to explore while we are waiting for the morning or afternoon to begin.

The children had to roll the die and pick up the feather that matched the number on the die.  The child who collected the most feathers at the table won the game.

Some children were making patterns with the popsicle sticks.

This is a great activity to strengthen the muscles in our fingers which will help us to become good printers.

Another great activity to improve fine motor skills.

I heard lots of boys and girls counting in French!

The afternoon class is busy at work.

Lots of concentration and patience was needed to complete this task.

The children are also learning to share and cooperate with their classmates.

The boys and girls also worked on waiting their turn.

We also played an "Oh-Oh!" colour turkey game.

The boys and girls also had to roll a die and add the correct amount of feathers on their turkeys (le dindon).

We have spent many days these past two weeks exploring the outdoors.

The morning class went on a "Fall Hunt".  They had to circle things that we found outside one day.  The afternoon class will be doing this next week.  This is a fun way to learn new French words.

I also explained to the children all about our "Little Lending Library" located at the front of the school.

And our family project is complete.  What a beautiful, big turkey!!!

The Integrated Arts With Leigh-Anne Kehler!

Making a story circle.  The children sat in a circle and used their bodies to retell the story they created.

We also used a triangle to write our story.  This story takes place by an old oak tree.  The squirrel gathers the nuts, the deer bangs into the tree and all of squirrel's nuts fall to the ground.  A bird helps the squirrel to gather his nuts again.

This story takes place by an apple tree.  The teenager is collecting the apples and the dancing squirrel bumps into the tree and makes more apples fall.  The bird helps the boy collect his apples.

We even spent part of this afternoon outside, picking a tree for our last story.

The boys and girls voted on the spiky pine tree for our story.

We have learned so much about writing stories, trees and nature.  The boys and girls are going to miss their visits with Leigh-Anne so much!  I will certainly continue to use all of Leigh-Anne's strategies and fun ideas to create stories with the kindergarten students all year long.
