This Week in Kindergarten!

We started off the week printing the letter B.

We watched another episode of Tipi Tales.

Illustrating a sentence in our Spring booklets.

The children improve every week in their literacy and fine motor skills.

We had a very busy week with the Integrated Arts but we still managed to find time to play.

Playing quietly at the carpet.

Practicing to form numbers with our Educational Assistant, Mme Scarpino.

Playing an upper-case and lower-case matching game.

We ended off the week printing the letter R.

Sharing with our friends.

Collaborating with others.

And creating beautiful art projects.

Thank you to all of the boys and girls for the beautiful thank you messages, drawings, cards and gifts for Teacher Appreciation week.  Thanks also to the parent council who treated us to some YUMMY snacks all week long!!!

Spring Slideshow - part 1!

Please take some time over the next few weeks to practice this first spring slideshow.

The Integrated Arts Day 2 and 3!

We started off days 2 and 3 with warm up activities.

We also reviewed dance techniques:  levels and speed.

Singing a butterfly song.

The children were tiny eggs in a bee hive.

The mommy bees brought their babies some nectar and then the bees formed larvae.

All of the children listened so well and followed instructions carefully.

Stretching those leg muscles.

The afternoon class' bees (les abeilles).

We also learned three other dance techniques:  isolation, size and emotions.

The children were jumping rope.

What a great way to incorporate dance and movement into our spring theme!  A big thank you to Rebecca! I will be sure to use some of these dance strategies when teaching about insects and sping next year.  The boys and girls are going to miss you!

The Integrated Arts with Rebecca Sawdon!

We met our artist, interpretive dancer, Rebecca Sawdon on Monday.

She taught us how to stretch our muscles.

Balancing on one leg.

Touching our toes.

Stretching on our tummies. 

We are incorporating insects and springtime in our dances.  The boys and girls are blades of grass growing slowly in the sun.

I believe that the students were dancing like cows that Rebecca said she sees in the fields out in the country.

The children also danced like eagles.  This was all part of a special springtime freeze dance.

Little caterpillars.

The caterpillars are in their cocoons (pillow cases).  Some of the cocoons have already transformed into beautiful butterflies.

Rebecca taught us all about the different levels of dancing: low, medium and high as well as different speeds of dancing.

More blades of grass in the afternoon classs.

Jumping frogs.

More little caterpillars.

We learned all about metamorphosis.

Learning a new springtime dance routine.

Some children volunteered to do a few solo dance moves.

What an AMAZING first class.  We can hardly wait until Wednesday and Thursday to see what Rebecca will be teaching us next!!!

This Week in Kindergarten!

Working hard in our spring booklets.

The children are getting better at printing on the line and leaving a finger space between words.

They also drew their houses in their All About Me booklets. 

Using dominoes to print number sentences.

The students also completed the addition activity independently.

We have started another social studies unit.  This is a special rock that was gifted to me by one of the school division's indigenous teachers.  We have started to learn about the 7 teachings.

We will be talking about all 7 animals and what they represent to the indigenous culture.

This week we watched an episode of Tipi Tales that focused on love (l'amour).  The eagle (l'aigle)  represents love.

And we ended off the week printing the letter D in our letter booklets.
