This Week in Kindergarten!

What a beautiful turkey the kindergarten students surprised me with upon my return from my compassionate leave!

The boys and girls all did a great job decorating their turkey feathers.

Sorting objects according to colours on the SMARTboard (jaune, rouge, bleu, vert).

Practicing to trace horizontal lines.

We also traced over curves (les courbes).

This week we started Discovery Bins.

There are a variety of materials at each of the four group tables in the classroom.

This keeps the children engaged in a fun activity even before announcements and O, Canada!

By the end of the week the students will have completed all 4 tasks.

The boys and girls used their imaginations to create many interesting things with these special connecting lines and curves.

Making trees and counting leaves.

Number tangrams.

Small wooden cubes.

The afternoon class creating objects.

They even made lines and trees with the small branches.

We also learn to share materials during discovery time.

I will change the materials at the tables every few weeks.

Another week, hard at play!

The children enjoy the marble maze runs.

The kitchen area continues to be a popular center.

And more creative play at the art table.

Practicing to name the number of dots on the die without having to count them.

The first step was to print their names at the bottom of the paper.

The second step was to draw a tree without leaves.

The third step was to colour the tree with a brown marker.  The final step was to add leaves with sponges dipped in yellow, orange and red paint.  I will add photos of the completed art work next week.

We took advantage of the nice weather to explore our outdoor classroom and look for signs of fall.  We discovered that the leaves were falling from the trees.

Some trees had no leaves.

Some homes were decorated for Halloween!  Another sign that it is fall (l'automne).

Les groupes 1 et 2 sitting in our outdoor classroom.

Les groupes 3 et 4 getting ready to have a discussion about fall.

We also took some time to play in the leaves.

Les groupes 1 et 2.

Les groupes 3 et 4.

We sang a song about l'automne (fall).  I will try to record the children singing outside next week.

And another very busy week is done in kindergarten!!!

Colder Weather!

*image found at clipartlibrary.com

Now that the cooler weather has arrived, please make sure that your child is dressed accordingly.  It is especially cool in the mornings and there are many students with cold ears and hands.

The boys and girls are outside for 15 minutes at recess time.  The morning class has recess from 9:55 a.m. until 10:10 a.m. and the afternoon class from 1:45 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Please help your child further develop independence by having him/her dress independently.  Take some time to practice at home if needed.  Your child show know how to put his/her arms in the sleeves of his/her jacket without someone holding the jacket.  They should also know how to fix sleeves that are inside out.  Have your child practice putting on and removing shoes or boots.  Remind your child that the last thing they should put on are their mittens as it is difficult to dress yourself with mittens on.  Mme Godin is happy to start up zippers as these can be tricky at times.

Remember that one of the kindergarten learning outcomes is to develop independence in your child.

Please label all items of clothing as many children have the same or similar toques mittens, jackets, etc.

Merci!
Mme Godin

Sentence Structures!

These are some of the sentence structures that we will be using daily in kindergarten all year long.  I am introducing these new sentences a few at a time.  We have been working on "Bonjour!", "Au revoir!"and "Est-ce que je peux aller aux toilettes s'il-vous-plait?".  I have added other sentences that we will be practicing over the next few weeks.

Please feel free to have your child practice along with me. I will be adding slideshows of all the new French vocabulary taught in class as well as videos of the children singing songs and reciting poems.

Let me know if ever you have any questions or concerns.

Merci!
Mme Godin

Arrête!- Stop!

The boys and girls drew a person.

They also practiced making vertical lines (les lignes).

I have very few photos to share with you this week.  I wanted to let all of my kindergarten families know that I will be away from school all of next week on "Compassionate Leave", following the loss of my dear mother.

Mme Pegler will be the substitute teacher and I will be back with more "This Week in Kindergarten!"  after the long weekend.

La course Terry Fox!

*image found at rosslandtelegraph.com

Once again, École Assiniboine will be supporting the Terry Fox Foundation by walking/running on Thursday, September 27th (rain date will be on the 28th).  This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the back of the school.  The morning kindergarten students will be running/walking in the morning during their Phys. Ed. class.

Please help us to make a difference by sending a donation of a loonie or a toonie with your child by the run date.

Take some time to talk about our Canadian hero, Terry Fox and why we have a special run in memory of him every year.

MERCI!
